Second person arrested in April home invasion slaying in Fayetteville

A second person was arrested recently in an April home invasion slaying, the Fayetteville Police Department said Wednesday.

April Shanee McLucas, 39, was arrested May 3 on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a weapon into occupied property and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a news release. The charges stem from an April 18 shooting at a home in the 200 block of Alphin Street that killed Robert Lawrence Nowell V, 36, and injured three other men, the release said.

The first arrest in the case came the day after the shooting, when Donald Wayne McLucas Jr. 40, of the 3500 block of Nebular Road, was arrested on six charges, including first-degree murder. He was booked into the Cumberland County Detention Center without bail.

According to records from the Department of Adult Corrections, McLucas — who was on probation after being convicted of charges of discharging a firearm into occupied property and interfering with an electronic monitoring device — was returned to prison after having his probation revoked April 20.

April McLucas is being held without bail in the Cumberland County jail. The relationship between the two McLucases was not immediately clear.
