Second Pickerington business from 'serial entrepreneur' tempts you to ReWax and UnWined

TK Madison is not one to sit still − at least not for long.

With her second business in Pickerington, the local entrepreneur continues to look for ways to bring relaxation and entertainment options to the heart of the community.

In addition to helping raise her three children, A.J., 17, Kaela, 16, and Zion, 9, and being a caretaker for her father, Donald Kelley, Madison also owns and operates Enhanced Brow n Lash Barn, 12975 Stonecreek Drive.

Yet, she still wanted more.

In April, Madison pivoted to a new entrepreneurial venture by opening ReWax and UnWined at 24 W. Columbus St. in Olde Pickerington Village. The 1,076-square-foot business provides opportunities for individuals or groups to make candles and, if they choose, bring their ownwine to enjoy while doing so.

The business offers clients a private lounge that can be reserved for special events. Madison said she has hosted a variety of gatherings at the space, from bridal showers and family reunions to birthday parties and bourbon tastings.

"For the community, any type of school event or even church function or any type of family event or otherwise, I think we're a good fit," Madison said. "We have the capabilities to host virtually any type of event."

A Dayton native, Madison and her husband, Anthony, moved to Pickerington and the Longview Highlands neighborhood about five years ago. The move came after Madison operated Luxury Beauty Bar in Gahanna from 2016-18 and after relocating Enhanced Brow n Lash Bar from Easton to Pickerington in 2019.

Madison, 43, calls herself a "serial entrepreneur." She's constantly looking for business opportunities, and she believes ReWax and UnWined and its private lounge give her flexibility to be creative and help shape events that everyone can enjoy.

"We're owned and operated by people who live in the community," Madison said. "So we're in tune with what Pickerington is looking for."

Additional information about ReWax and UnWined and reserving the business' private lounge are available at rnuevents.com.

Madison said the candle-making side of the business is set up for family members or groups of friends to spend an evening together making candles, as well as for guests to meet new people.

Those who visit are assigned a personalized "vibe specialist" who sets table spaces and pours drinks that guests bring. Each guest can create two complementary 8-ounce candles.

ReWax and UnWined also provides each party with a charcuterie board and snacks.

"You would come because you want a different experience in Pickerington," Madison said. "You might want to sit and talk with someone you've never met before. You want to make candles that not only smell good but that you created yourself at a fraction of the cost of going to a big-box store. You get to pick your own scents, you get to customize them with different fragrances, herbs and colors.

"If you've had a long week or you're a teacher and you want to get away with your friends, you come to ReWax and UnWined. If you need a new date night with your husband or wife, you come to ReWax and UnWined. If you're hanging out with your coworkers or your sister is in town, you come to ReWax and UnWined. It's for everyone."

Madison the private lounge provides space for people who have their own ideas for their gatherings, or she can serve as a hands-on organizer who helps link them to caterers and others who will help stage the events.

"We do private parties, birthdays, bridal showers, family dinners where you want to have that space where it feels like you're at home," Madison said. "We can accommodate up to 50 people on the inside, and on the outside we have a gazebo, tables, cornhole."

Kim Barlag, president and CEO of the Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce, calls Madison a "visionary" who she believes has bolstered event planning services for the community.

Barlag said plans to bring in-house alcohol sales to the site will add to the entertainment options in the area.

"(Madison) and her husband have created a beautiful and inviting space for gatherings, including a lighted courtyard that is a hidden gem on Columbus Street," Barlag said. "Her business goal to bring alcohol sales to this precinct needs our support, as it will elevate Olde Pickerington Village and bring more commerce to this area."

Madison said she's continuing to envision how ReWax and UnWined can evolve to serve the community.

This winter, she's planning a Christmas Hop that will cross promote other businesses in Olde Pickerington, and she's hoping to bring in food trucks for gatherings such as Ohio State University and high school football games.

"When you talk about engaging and maintaining those community relationships, I want to really give," Madison said. "I don't want to leave Pickerington. I'm here for the long haul. So I wanted to put something in the ground, so to speak, that I knew would grow and grow and grow.

"I think a lot of opportunities are going to come this way because Olde Pickerington is adjusting to what the community looks like. People want to do more down here. We're really coming into 2023 with our racing shoes on."
