A second child has passed away after a weather-related incident, North Orlando Rowing said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
The rower had been transported to the hospital following the incident.
The lightning strike happened around 5:50 p.m. on Sept. 15 at Lake Fairview, near Lee Road and Edgewater Drive.
Firefighters said five people from a rowing club were on a boat when lightning struck.
Officials believe the lightning struck the boat, or near it, causing it to overturn.
Firefighters said five middle schoolers were on the boat — four rowers and a coxswain, responsible for steering.
The Orlando rowing community said they will continue to support the families affected by the tragedy.
USRowing and local authorities are still investigating the incident.
North Orlando Rowing has organized a GoFundMe page for direct support to the families affected, which can be found here.
