For second straight day, Russia encroaches on NATO air space, forcing France to scramble Mirage jet

For the second straight day, a NATO member’s air force was called on to intercept a Russian plane encroaching on NATO territory.

The French military deployed Mirage fighter jets to intercept a Russian military aircraft near the coast of Estonia, France's General Staff reported on X on Feb. 27.

The interception was initiated as a response to the presence of a Russian IL-20 reconnaissance plane approaching Estonian airspace.

The incident occurred off the coast of Estonia, the action was taken to "protect the airspace of our Baltic allies," the French General Staff stated.

The move by France comes just a day after the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) was forced to scramble a Eurofighter jet to intercept a Russian Il-20M military aircraft off the coast of Finland.
