Second survivor from capsized ship off Japan dies
The second survivor from the capsized cattle ship travelling from New Zealand to China, who had been pulled unconscious from the waters of the East China Sea on Friday (September 4), has died.
That's according to Japan's coast guard, who found the man about 120 kilmometres north-northwest of Amami Oshima island in southwestern Japan.
The vessel, called the Gulf Livestock 1, is said to have lost an engine and capsized in stormy weather after it sent a distress call on Wednesday as Typhoon Maysak lashed the area.
A life jacket and cattle carcass were also collected from the same area on Friday, the coastguard said, and the search was continuing for 41 other crew members who remain missing.
The first survivor, 45-year-old chief officer Sareno Edvarodo was rescued on Wednesday night.
Released video from the coastguard showed him asking about other crew members, after he was rescued.
Three vessels, one airplane and two divers were taking part in the search for other survivors.
The ship departed from New Zealand on August 14th with nearly 6000 cattle, 39 crew members from the Philippines, two from New Zealand and two from Australia.
