Second suspect arraigned in 2019 Millcreek robbery in which victim beaten with pipe

An Erie man serving a state prison sentence was arraigned and jailed Tuesday on charges in a 2019 robbery in Millcreek Township in which a man was beaten with a pipe and robbed of cash, food and his clothing, according to township police.

Matthew J. Musolino, 36, was initially charged in October 2020 in a robbery that was reported at the Driftwood Motel, 3663 W. 12th St., on Oct. 27, 2019.

Millcreek police accuse Musolino and Richard A. Lehman, 43, of assaulting a man with a metal pipe and robbing him. The victim suffered injuries that included a fractured leg and was treated at UPMC Hamot after the attack, police wrote in the criminal complaints.

Lehman was charged in the case in November 2019. He pleaded guilty to a felony count of robbery in October 2020 and was sentenced in February 2021 to serve two to five years in state prison.

Investigators said at the time of Lehman's arrest that the second suspect in the attack was unknown. They later received information identifying that suspect as Musolino, and when police interviewed him in May 2020 Musolino admitted to being the second suspect, investigators wrote in Musolino's criminal complaint.

Musolino, who is serving a state prison sentence in another criminal case out of Erie County, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon by Millcreek Township District Judge Laurie Mikielski on charges including felony counts of robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and aggravated assault.

Mikielski set Musolino's bond at $150,000 and tentatively scheduled his preliminary hearing for Feb. 8.
