Pair of brothers charged in shooting that killed two at Thibodaux party

A pair of brothers have been charged in connection with a shooting that killed two people during a party Friday night in Thibodaux, police said.

Killed were 47-year-old Alvin Turner and 70-year-old Linda M. Johnson.

Terrione R. Thomas, 26, of Baton Rouge, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, Thibodaux Police said.

Another suspect, Timothy Paul Thomas, 38, of Gray, was taken into custody earlier Saturday and is charged with accessory after the fact. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish jail, where he is being held without bail.

Thibodaux Police said they were called about 7:30 p.m. to an event hall in the 900 block of St. Charles Street, where they found found Turner and Johnson dead.

Terrione Thomas had gotten into an argument with Alvin Turner during the party, authorities said.

"The suspect then left, from what we understand, went and grabbed a firearm, returned to the scene and then opened fire," said Thibodaux Police Lt. Clint Dempster.

Timothy Thomas drove him from the scene and was arrested Saturday by Lafourche Parish sheriff's deputies, authorities said.

Terrione Thomas was found later Saturday at an out-of-town hospital and taken into custody by the Baton Rouge Police Department, authorities said. He was scheduled to be transferred to Thibodaux to be interviewed and booked into the Lafourche Parish jail.

Police say they don't believe Turner and Johnson are related and that the 70-year-old may have been caught in the crossfire.

"A bullet don't have no name on it and sometimes things happen," said Deborah Smith.

Smith said she knew Johnson for years and that in a small town like Thibodaux, she knows everyone is hurting.

"Linda was a sweet person. She was well known, and I feel for both sides of the family, not just one — the young man and the lady who got killed," Smith said. "It's unfortunate. This is definitely not something that happens a whole whole lot. We going to stay prayed up, we going to get through this here because Lafourche Parish, Thibodaux, we're resilient, we're going to bounce back."
