Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) stated that, even if Donald Trump is reelected as President of the United States, it will not be a tragedy for Ukraine. The comments came in an interview with Ukrainian outlet Babel on Feb. 9.

He offered reassurance that Ukraine will exist no matter who is in the Oval Office.

"No matter who is President in the United States, there is no tragedy for Ukraine,” he said.

“It's a humiliation for all of us when we come to the conclusion that, depending on who is President in America, the state may cease to exist.”

According to Danilov, Ukrainians have already proven to the world that they deserve to have their own state. He does not approve of claims that the situation for Ukraine may become worse if Trump is reelected.

He also added that the United States is currently experiencing difficulties related to "a transition in the political process." The NSDC Secretary believes that these events are the result of Washington gaining international influence and a "monopoly on the political situation around the world" after the Cold War.

Donald Trump has repeatedly boasted that he could end Russia's war against Ukraine within 24 hours, but has not provided any details of his plan.

Trump has also said that he would "allow" the aggressor country to seize part of Ukraine.

Commenting on Trump's statements, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the justification of occupations of parts of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, as well as Crimea by Russia is not a peaceful plan but a surrender. He has previously invited Trump to visit Ukraine.
