U-E beats Vestal; Corning downs Horseheads: Section 4 Week 7 football recap

Union-Endicott secured the Section 4 Division II title Friday night with a 12-7 victory against visiting Vestal.

The Tigers improved to 6-1 and closed division play with a 3-0 mark to earn home-field advantage throughout the four-team Class A tournament in Section 4. Union-Endicott will host fourth-seeded Ithaca in one semifinal, with second-seeded Vestal home against Horseheads in the other.

Other games of note:

  • Corning was a 20-7 winner over Horseheads, avenging its lone regular-season loss from last season.

  • Elmira handed Section 3's Fayetteville-Manlius (7-0) its first loss, 31-16, after building a 31-0 halftime lead.

  • Defending Class D state champion held off Delhi, 28-21, in a meeting of unbeaten Division V teams. Tioga (8-0, 6-0 Division V) clinched the top seed for the four-team Class D sectional tournament. Delhi fell to 6-1.

  • Maine-Endwell, New York's top-ranked Class B team, improved to 7-0 with a 48-6 victory Saturday at Johnson City.
