Section III releases girls lacrosse playoff brackets

With the regular season concluding, the Section III girls lacrosse tournaments have been set.

There are four local teams competing in sectionals this spring, here’s what in store for each of them in the first round:

Clinton Warriors

Clinton finished the season 9-6 and second in the Tri-Valley League. That performance was good enough to earn them the sixth seed in the Class D tournament.

Clinton will travel to Westhill to take on the third-seeded Warriors in a first-round matchup 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 24. This will be the first time Westhill and Clinton face off this season

Clinton has been led by leading scorer Ava Alteri (45 goals, 16 assists) and Chelsea Lopata (46 goals, 24 assists) this season. The dynamic duo will need to continue their success to help the team take home a championship this spring.

High school lacrosse: Section III girls lacrosse scores, top performers for the 2022 season

New Hartford Spartans

The Spartans finished the season 8-8 and finished third in the TVL. New Hartford is the eighth seed in Class C.

Top-seeded Jamesville-DeWitt will host New Hartford in the first round 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24. This game will be the first time the two teams meet this season.

Ilana McCarthy has been a force for the Spartans this season. She has racked up 42 goals, four assists, and 20 ground balls. Teammate Sophia Campola has helped the team with 24 goals, seven assists, 51 ground balls, 114 draw controls and 15 forced turnovers.

Rome Free Academy Black Knights

The Black Knights finished atop the TVL with a 12-3 record overall and a perfect 8-0 record against TVL opponents. Their regular season success earned RFA a fifth seed in the Class A tournament.

RFA will be on the road against Christian Brothers Academy. That game is set to take place 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 24. RFA and CBA have yet to play each other this year.

Alexandria Tapia leads RFA with 43 goals, she also has five assists. Drew Kopek comes in at second with 32 goals while adding nine assists. Alana Iacovissi has been impressive in goal this season. The senior has picked up 84 saves this season.

Whitesboro Warriors

Whitesboro ended the regular season 6-9, good enough for fourth in the TVL. Their efforts this season earned them a seventh seed in the Class C tournament.

The Warriors will be on the road against No. 2 Homer in the first round 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 24. This will be the first time Homer and Whitesboro play one another this season.

Whitesboro has been led offensively by Gianna Parise and Maria Stuhlman. Parise has accumulated 37 goals and four assists this season while Stuhlman has totaled 35 goals and four assists.
