Lexington’s New Circle Road reopens after crash. Police detail what happened.

A portion of the inner loop of New Circle Road between Versailles Road and Harrodsburg Road has been reopened after it was temporarily shut down for an injury accident Thursday morning, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.

According to the Lexington Police Department, a three-vehicle accident caused the shutdown.

According to police, a gray Honda Civic was merging lanes while traveling on the outer loop of New Circle Road and struck a Ford-150 in the other lane. The Civic’s driver said there was a vehicle in front of them that was traveling slow, so they merged left quickly.

The driver of the F-150 subsequently lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and crossed the barrier that separates the inner and outer loops of New Circle Road, according to police. The F-150 was then struck by an oncoming black GMC Yukon traveling on the inner loop.

According to police, the driver of the GMC Yukon suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. The drivers of the Honda Civic and the Ford F-150 weren’t sent to the hospital.

All vehicles were occupied solely by the drivers.

Heavy fog was one of several possible factors in the wreck, police said.

During the shutdown, police diverted traffic from Nicholasville Road onto Harrodsburg Road while officials evaluated the scene. Access onto the inner loop of New Circle Road from Harrodsburg Road was also shut down, the center said.
