U.S. 50 crash reported as fatal, emergency repairs needed for overpass

(FOX40.COM) — An early morning solo vehicle collision along westbound U.S. 50 near West Sacramento has been determined to be fatal, according to the California Highway Patrol Woodland station.

The car collided with a support pillar for the Sycamore Lane overpass at around midnight and caused a full closure of westbound U.S. 50 from Jefferson Boulevard to Harbor Boulevard.

The closure was put in place following the crash and was lifted at around 7 a.m.

According to CHP, the vehicle drove into the center divide where the support columns for the Sycamore Trail pedestrian overcrossing was located. The passenger died in the crash and the driver is reported to have minor injuries.

Law enforcement have determined that alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this crash.

Due to the damage caused to the overpass the City of West Sacramento shared that westbound 50 will be closed overnight as emergency repairs are made to the overpass.

Detours will be in place from 11 p.m. through 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
