Section V boys strong among top 10 of state soccer rankings; girls dominating Class C

Section V has at least one team ranked in the top 10 in each classification of the newest state boys soccer rankings, released this week by the New York State Sports Writers Association.

Not only that, but Attica/Alexander, Red Creek and Harley Allendale Columbia are the newest teams among the ranked as the postseason kicks in. Here’s a look at how the Section V teams are doing in this week’s state polls for both boys and girls soccer with team records through Oct. 16.

Section V boys soccer teams in state rankings

Class AA

McQuaid (13-0-2) climbs to No. 6 from the No. 8 spot last week and Fairport (11-3-0), which lost twice last week, falls to No. 14 after reaching No. 4.

Scarsdale (15-0-0) of Section I remains at No. 1.

Class A

Wayne (15-0-0) moves to No. 3 from the No. 4 spot last week and Pittsford Sutherland (12-3-1) remains tied at No. 20 with John Glenn of Section XI.

Garden City (12-0-0) of Section VIII is still No. 1.

Class B

Bishop Kearney (13-1-1) climbs to No. 2 from the No. 3 spot and Attica/Alexander (16-0-0) joins the rankings for the first time at No. 18.

Hornell (13-1-0) falls to No. 19 from No. 16 and Briarcliff (14-0-1) of Section I remains at the top of Class B.

Class C

Avon (16-0-0) remains at No. 1, where it’s been all season. Red Creek (13-3-0) joins the rankings for the first time this season at No. 12.

Class D

Fillmore (16-0-0) remains at No. 2 and Harley Allendale Columbia (13-2-0) rejoins the rankings this season at No. 8 after falling out of the Sept. 20 poll. Naples (13-3-0) falls a spot to No. 10 from No. 9 last week and Mount Morris (10-6-0) comes in at No. 18 after reaching No. 17 last week.

Chazy (14-0-1) of Section VII remains at No. 1.

Section V girls soccer teams in state rankings

Class AA

Webster Schroeder (11-2-3) falls a spot to No. 12 from No. 11 last week and Penfield (11-4-0) falls to No. 23 from No. 20.

Shaker (14-1-0) of Section II remains at No. 1.

Class A

Pittsford Mendon (14-0-2) remains at No. 5 and Spencerport (12-1-2) climbs two spots to No. 8 from No. 10.

Greece Athena (10-4-1) joins the rankings at No. 22 and Honeoye Falls-Lima (9-2-2) remains level at No. 23 as New Hartford-III (15-0-1) continues to sit at No. 1.

Class B

Palmyra-Macedon (14-1-1) remains at No. 2 while Haverling (16-0-0) falls to No. 5 from No. 4.

Hornell (13-3-0) is at No. 19, up from No. 23 last week, and Schalmont (14-2-0) of Section II remains at No. 1.

Class C

Byron-Bergen (16-0-0) is still No. 2 behind top-ranked Waterford-Halfmoon (15-1-0) of Section II and Gananda (16-0-0) remains at No. 5.

Addison (12-1-0) moves up to No. 9 from No. 10, Geneseo (14-2-0) is at No. 10 from the No. 7 spot last week and Wheatland-Chili (12-2-2) is at No. 11 from No. 12 last week. Marcus Whitman (13-2-1) falls to No. 14 from No. 13 and Holley (13-2-1) remains at No. 19.

Marion (13-3-0) joins the poll at a three-way tie at No. 25 that also includes Canisteo-Greenwood (14-2-0), which gives Section V nine ranked teams in this class.

Class D

Fillmore (16-0-0) remains at No. 2 and Northstar (14-1-1) moves to No. 8 from No. 9 last week. Genesee Valley/Belfast (11-3-2) moves to No. 16 from No. 15.

Mount Academy (14-0-0) of Section IX remains at No. 1.
