MANSFIELD – The top three teams in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference standings were at it again in the Division II sectional wrestling tournament at Clyde High School – with one notable difference.

Ontario and Clear Fork swapped spots at the very top.

One week after getting dethroned by Clear Fork in the MOAC tournament, Ontario turned around and beat the Colts by a 191.5-184.5 margin for a sectional title.

The Warriors produced 11 district qualifiers, led by sectional champs Aiden Ohl (106) and Mason Turnbaugh (138).

Two of Ontario’s stalwarts all season, Ohl pinned Bellevue’s Brock Meacham in 1:17 for his title and Turnbaugh nipped Clyde’s C.J. Fisher 4-3.

Jacob Ohl, last year’s state runner-up at 106 and this year’s projected champ at 120, hurt his left knee and some ribs in the MOAC tournament, so he defaulted Saturday’s title match against Galion’s Gradey Harding since he had already locked up a district berth.

Ohl was leading 4-3 last week in the second period when his knee injury forced him to retire. It was his first loss to Harding in five meetings. Their series is now 4-2, with both of Ohl’s losses to Harding by default as well as the only other loss on his 2022-23 ledger.

Ontario had two other runners-up in Julian McGinty (144) and Bralen Boone (190). McGinty lost by pin (4:32) to Clyde’s Lance Overmyer and Boone fell 13-4 to Tiffin Columbian’s projected state champ Max Ray.

Also moving on for Ontario were Owen Reamsnider (fourth at 126), Cole Dille (third at 157), Drew Barnes (fourth at 165), Dylan Floyd (third at 175), Grason Bias (third at 215) and Braden Robinson (fourth at 285).

Clear Fork, which beat Ontario by five points for the MOAC title, matched Ontario with two sectional champs, as did Galion and Mansfield Senior.

Clear Fork’s champs were Peyton Hoskins (126) and Luke Schlosser (165). Hoskins slipped past Clyde’s Dawson Brimmer 8-7 and Schlosser won by default over Columbian’s Manny Aller.

Galion, which finished third in the MOAC and sectional standings, saw Alex Griffith (285) join Harding as a sectional champ, while Mansfield Senior teammates Leo Hess (175) and Mekhi Bradley (215) took home firsts as they’ve done much of the season.

Hess edged Columbian’s Landon Cook 4-3 and Bradley, in arguably the tournament’s marquee match, nipped Galion’s Landon Campbell 3-2 in a showdown between the No. 4 Tiger and the No. 5 Tyger in the state rankings.

In their only other meeting this season, Campbell and Bradley wrestled to a 0-0 tie in the preseason all-star meet. Campbell has missed a large chunk of this season, including the J.C. Gorman Invitational, with a hyperextended elbow.

Runners-up, among Clear Fork’s nine district qualifiers, were Jaxon Swank (132) and Eric Hicks (285). Also advancing for the Colts were Colton Wenger (third at 106),  Walker Kirkpatrick (fourth at 120), Cody Jackson (fourth at 150), Blake Schlosser (fourth at 157), Blake Schlosser (fourth at 157) and Fred Proto (default at 190).

Those staying alive for Galion included Brodyn Butcher (second at 157), Ryder Alberty (third at 113), Kidren Clark (third at 126), Davon Trukovich (fourth at 132) and Arius Swaim (fourth at 144).

Lexington had two district qualifiers in fourth-place finishers Cayden Kunkle (fourth at 138) and Cole Eichorn (175).

Two champs for Madison

Hunter Hutcheson (190) and Mike Thomas (126) won titles and two other Rams reached the finals in the DII sectional tournament at Sandusky.

Hutcheson pinned Sandusky Perkins’ Haiden Bollini in 1:40, while Thomas beat Sandusky’s Dre Campbell 9-1. The runners-up were 106-pounder Jase Braden, who lost 5-0 to Perkins’ Marco Murator and heavyweight Jaxin Stancombe, who lost by pin (3:05) to Toledo Central Catholic’s Michael Cannings.

Other Rams advancing were third-place finishers Ashton Mcglasson (113) and Dominik Whitesel (165), while Shelby had four district qualifiers in Tristen Carr (fourth at 113), Chance Jamison (third at 150), Skyler Winters (fourth at 190), Christian Santiz (fourth at 165).

In the team standings, Madison was fifth (130.5)  and Shelby (106) was sixth. Sandusky Perkins won with 280 points.

Seven to district for Ashland

Korbyn Jones (120) and Jon Metzger (157) won titles as the Arrows advanced seven to districts from the D I Midview sectional. Jones blanked Fremont Ross’ Bryce Estep 5-0, while Metzger topped Toledo St. John’s 10-2. Finishing second were Angelo Seitz (190) and Cayden Spotts (215).

Knight dominate lightweights

Northmor won three titles at the light end of the lineup and had four other wrestlers advance from the DIII sectional at Ridgedale.

Ethan Amens was the Knights’ first champ, scoring a 19-2 technical fall of Fredericktown’s Trent Rooke at 113. Cowin Becker followed Amens with a 4:48 pin of North Union’s Trace Williams at 120 and Carson Campbell  capped the title haul by pinning Amanda-Clearcreek’s Landon L’Huiller in 4:39 for the 138 title.

Also placing and advancing for Northmor were Brady Carr (third at 106), Thomas Keen (fourth at 126), Bryce Cooper (fourth at 144) and Ashton Clark (third at 175).

The Knights finished third with 143 points, behind champion Pleasant (216) and Mechanicsburg (172).
