Security Camera Captures Fireball Streak Across Scotland Sky

A home security camera in Linlithgow, Scotland, captured a fireball streaking across the night sky on September 14.

Reports citing experts said the suspected meteor was likely space debris. However, the UK Meteor Network – a citizen science community that has a network of 170 meteor detection cameras – shared results of an analysis that claims the fireball was a meteor.

Video captured by Stephen Doyle’s home security camera shows the fireball. Doyle told Storyful he was first alerted to the fireball after “a bright flash in the sky.”

“We then watched as it tore across the sky leaving a large green luminescent trail behind it,” he said. “Small parts [seemed] to fall off and burn brightly, causing a flashing effect.” Credit: Stephen Doyle via Storyful
