Palm Beach County has had more job openings than unemployed people for four straight months, but that's not stopping a national company from seeking to fill hundreds of positions in the county.

Allied Universal, a security and facility services company, said Tuesday that it will hold job fairs in West Palm Beach to fill 500 positions.

The company's open house hiring events will take place Dec. 9 and Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Allied Universal’s branch office at 1645 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., Suite 600.

“We are recruiting for all shifts for all levels of experience,” said Alessio Carulli, Allied Universal's regional recruiter, in a statement. “We are interviewing and hiring on the spot!”

Allied's announcement did not specify the actual positions the company is seeking to fill other than to say it is "seeking to hire 500+ security professionals."

A company spokesman said positions pay between $13 and $22 an hour, and the company is offering hiring bonuses for some positions. Allied said full-time positions include benefits such as medical and dental coverage, life insurance, 401(k) retirement plans and holidays.

Allied Universal's hiring push comes as Palm Beach County is experiencing an unprecedented tight labor market.

For the fourth straight month, there were more job openings than unemployed people in the county — 37,857 job openings vs. 30,161 unemployed people — in October, the most recent month for which data exists. The jobless rate in the county is just 4%.

Tom Veenstra, vice president of administration at CareerSource of Palm Beach County, has said the demand for workers has raised the county's de facto minimum wage to between $14 and $16 an hour as companies boost wages to hire and retain workers.

Hiring in specific professions is skyrocketing in Palm Beach County

He also points out that hiring in the professional and business services category, as well as in the education and health services field, has skyrocketed.

And Allied is not the only employer looking to hire by the hundreds. The Boca Raton, formerly the Boca Raton Resort & Club, held job fairs in October and November to hire up to 1,000 employees ahead of its December grand re-opening following an overhaul and rebranding of the iconic 1926 property.

Allied's hiring push comes as the Palm Beach County economy booms. The influx of new, and more affluent, residents plus the exponential demand in higher-end office space has placed a greater demand for the company's services.
