Security Guard Accidentally Shoots Teen, Self On Red Line Train

CHICAGO, IL — A security guard and a 16-year-old girl were both injured when the guard's gun accidentally went off during an altercation on a red line train early Thursday. The incident took place near the Belmont stop around 4 a.m., according to Kellie Bartoli, a spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department.

Bartoli said the38-year-old security guard approached the girl because she was "causing a disturbance." Bartoli added that a "minor physical altercation ensued," causing a gun in the security guard's pocket to fire.

The bullet hit the security guard in the leg and grazed the girl's stomach, Bartoli said. Both the teen and the guard were taken to a local hospital and are in good condition.

The shooting is currently under investigation.
