Security guard kills man by firing into crowd during fight at sports bar, Texas cops say

One person is dead and another hospitalized after a security guard fired his weapon at customers at a sports bar early Sunday, police in Texas say.

It was closing time at Ojos Locos, a sports bar in Houston, when an armed security guard began clearing patrons out of the bar, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez wrote on Twitter. When one man refused to leave, the two began to fight and others soon jumped in, he wrote.

“As he approached them, there was some type of altercation that ensued. It appears that multiple people joined the fray,” Gonzalez told the Houston Chronicle.

During the tussle, the security guard pulled out his gun and shot one person before turning around and shooting another, KPRC reported. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other, who was shot in the arm, was rushed to an area hospital and is in stable condition, police say.

Everybody was screaming,” a witness told KTRK. “Everybody was screaming and crying. There [were] a couple girls crying. His best friend... two of his friends were lying by his side crying, saying, ‘Why did you kill my friend? You didn’t have to kill him.’”

Police say there were two other security guards in the bar at the time of the shooting, but it’s unclear if they were involved in the fight, according to the outlet.

Ojos Locos released a statement promising to share information as it becomes available, KHOU reported.

“A tragic incident occurred at one of our Houston restaurants this morning and we are still gathering details of what happened,” the statement said. “Since this is an ongoing police investigation, it would be inappropriate to speculate at this time. We will share additional information when it is available.”
