Security guard at Myrtle Beach High School arrested for fabricating a bomb threat

A school security guard was arrested Friday for fabricating a bomb threat at Myrtle Beach High School, according to reports.

Coty Allen Kennedy, 20, was charged by Myrtle Beach Police with a bomb threat, conspiring to threat and soliciting another to threat.

Kennedy was arrested at 5 p.m. at the school at 3302 Robert Grissom Parkway. He had turned in a note with the threat to a school administrator, saying he found it on the ground, according to a police incident report.

Kennedy was a newly assigned, unarmed security officer at the high school, according to Lisa Bourcier, director of strategic communications and community engagement with Horry County Schools.

Kennedy confessed to fabricating and presenting a hoax threat to the school administration, Bourcier said by email Monday.

“The arrest came after a swift investigation and collaboration between the administrative staff at Myrtle Beach High School, District Office personnel, the security company’s supervisors, and the Myrtle Beach Police Department,” Bourcier said in the email statement.

The security officer will no longer be affiliated with Horry County Schools, she said.
