Security Service of Ukraine identifies Russian riot police officers who tortured Ukrainians in Zaporizhzhia Oblast

The Security Service of Ukraine  (SSU) has identified three more Russian invaders who took part in abductions and tortures of civilians in the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Details: The Service says that one of the perpetrators is the commander of the tactical group of the 22nd Separate Operational Brigade of Rosgvardia [the National Guard of Russia].

He was appointed military commandant of the occupation administration of Melitopol, after the Ukrainian city was captured. When holding this position, he fulfilled Moscow's task to suppress the resistance movement in Pryazovia [term used to refer to the geographic area of the north coast of the Sea of Azov – ed.]. He formed "punitive detachments'' that conducted mass raids on the places of residence of local residents in order to do this.

During such "raids" Russian occupiers abducted people and took them to the "military commandant's office" of the Russian Federation. There, the information about the location of Ukrainian patriots in the area was "beaten out" of the victims.

Two more war criminals are officers of the Makhachkala [the capital of the Republic of Dagestan, Russia] detachment of special police (more commonly known as OMON) of the Rosgvardia Department in the Republic of Dagestan.

At the beginning of the occupation of Vasylivka district (Zaporizhzhia Oblast), they became part of the "commandant's office" of the Russian Federation created by the aggressor: one as the "deputy head" of the occupation body, and the other as his assistant.

The SSU has established that they personally participated in illegal detentions and torture of Ukrainian citizens, used poisonous chemicals and applied electric current to the victims and constantly threatened to kill their close relatives.

The SSU investigators notified the offenders of suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war based on the collected evidence.
