The SCHD says all women, especially those who are sexually active, should have a well woman exam each year. A well woman exam consists of an overall physical exam, breast exams starting at age 20, and a Pap smear every three years starting at age 21. A Pap smear detects precancerous, abnormal changes in the cervix.

To see if you are eligible for a free or low-cost cervical and breast cancer screening exam, you can call the Kansas Department of Health and Environment at 877-277-1368 or visit kdhe.ks.gov.
