One year after the partial collapse of the 12-story beachfront Champlain Towers South condominium at approximately 1:22 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2021, in Surfside, Florida, the site remains an eerie reminder of the tragic event that claimed the lives of 98 victims. Four people were rescued from the rubble, although one died of injuries. Eleven others were injured. Approximately 35 were rescued the same day from the portion of the building that did not collapse. The remaining structure was demolished 10 days later.
The NFL will allow players to wear protective Guardian Caps during games beginning with the 2024 season. The caps were previously mandated for practices.
