See ECU's Bryson Worrell hit home runs from opposite sides of the plate in the same inning

The third inning was a big offensive inning for the East Carolina Pirates baseball team against Coppin State in the NCAA Tournament Greenville Regional first round on Friday.

ECU scored eight runs in the third inning to take a 12-1 lead against Coppin State. ECU defeated Coppin State 17-1.

No one had a bigger third inning for ECU than center fielder Bryson Worrell, who hit two third-inning home runs.

Worrell's two home runs came from opposite sides of the plate.

East Carolina advances to face the Virginia vs. Coastal Carolina winner at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 4. Coppin State goes against the UVA vs. CCU loser.

Bryson Worrell was the first ECU batter in the bottom of the third inning, and he batted right-handed.

On the eighth pitch of his at-bat, Worrell hit a solo home run over the left-field fence. It put ECU up 5-1 vs. Coppin State.

Worrell hit the home run off Coppin State starting pitcher Jordan Hamberg, a left-handed pitcher.

When Worrell came to the plate for the second time in the bottom of the third inning, ECU led Coppin State 9-1 and there were two outs. Right-hander John Neeld was the Coppin State pitcher.

Worrell batted left-handed, and he proceeded to hit a three-run home run that put ECU up 12-1 vs. Coppin State.

In MLB, only three times have players hit home runs from opposite sides of the plate in the same inning, according to the Baseball Almanac. Carlos Baerga did it for Cleveland on April 8, 1993, Mark Bellhorn did it for the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 29, 2002, and Kendrys Morales did it for the Los Angeles Angels on July 30, 2012.

ECU improved to 43-18 overall. Coppin State went to 24-29 overall.
