Just in time for Christmas, Amazon dropped the first trailer for its much-anticipated “Coming to America” sequel on Tuesday.
For the new installment, aptly titled “Coming 2 America,” Eddie Murphy is back as Zamundan Prince Akeem Joffer, who must return to the U.S. to find his long-lost son, who is an heir to the Zamundan throne.
This time, however, Arsenio Hall, as his trusty sidekick Semi, isn’t as eager to head back the States. “Oh hell, no!” he screams in the clip.
The trailer also shows that James Earl Jones’ King Jaffe Joffer is apparently on his deathbed, prompting the search for the would-be heir.
“Coming 2 America” is ripe with star power, including appearances by Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Teyana Taylor and Shari Headley – as well as Murphy and Hall reprising their iconic roles from the first scene, including the men in the barbershop, Reverend Brown, and Randy Watson with his band, Sexual Chocolate.
In the beloved 1988 film, the crown prince, along with Semmi, decides to travel to Queens, N.Y., to find his future queen in an effort to find a wife his family didn’t choose for him.
Helmed by John Landis, the surprise blockbuster grossed $288 million.
Directed by Craig Brewer, who helmed 2005 1/4 u2032s “Hustle & Flow” and written by “black-ish” creator Kenya Barris, “Coming 2 America” debuts on Amazon Prime on March 5, 2021.
