Florida State (33-23) may not be playing at its home park, but the Seminoles got off to a pretty good start Friday against UCLA in the Auburn Regional in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The Seminoles struck quickly and held onto a lead midway through the game, although the Bruins (38-22) finally got to FSU's tough pitcher, Parker Messick, in the fifth inning.

Getting some insurance from Alex Toral in the ninth, Florida State beat UCLA 5-3 in the Auburn Regional opener.

9th inning: Alex Toral gives the Seminoles some insurance with a no-doubt homer

But Alex Toral gave the Seminoles a little breathing room by just turning on a pitch.

5th inning: UCLA gets on the board with a homer, single

UCLA had been having trouble getting anything going against Florida State starter Parker Messick, until Carson Yates cracked a solo homer to cut the Seminoles' lead to 3-1.

Jake Palmer would follow to cut the lead to 3-2 with a single, driving in Kenny Oyama.

5th inning: Jordan Carrion hits two-run triple to triple FSU's lead

UCLA pitcher Max Rajcic had kept the Seminoles quiet for the most part except an early run, but in the fifth, Florida State woke up its bats a bit.

With Colton Vincent and Tyler Martin on, Jordan Carrion smacked a shot down the first-base line that found the corner. UCLA right fielder Michael Curialle bobbled the ball and both runners came in on Carrion's triple.

1st inning: Back-to-back hits and the Seminoles are on the board

With Jaime Ferrer on second with a two-out double, James Tibbs drives him in with a single.
