Gleaming Northern California wine country estate with guest tower for sale: $22M

An unconventional, gleaming-white residence set against a green backdrop of evergreen trees and vineyards on 130 acres in Northern California’s Napa Valley wine country has hit the market for $22 million.

The estate showcases a high, dramatic tower for guests to stay.

The property is owned by Clint and Janet Reilly, who purchased it in 1999, according to the SiteXPro database. Clint Reilly runs an organization of diverse enterprises, including real estate, hospitality, media and philanthropy interests.

Their 7,154-square-foot residence combines the diverse architectural styles of modernism and art deco with some post-modern deconstructivism mixed in. The showstopper home, sitting atop Mount Vedeer , encompasses eight acres of premium Cabernet vineyards and offers expansive views of the Napa Valley.

“At its heart stands a villa residence that defies convention, a structure that blends contemporary and modern influences with the grace of sculptural design,” the listing states.

UK-based architect David Connor designed the villa, pool and guest tower for the heir to a Swedish bread fortune, according to Sotheby’s International Realty, which holds the listing. It is believed to have hosted the Dalai Lama among other well-known guests.

It’s an unconventional architectural style in contrast with Napa Valley’s many Tuscany-type villas.

“The main villa residence appears as a calm white monument positioned perfectly on a lush green lawn shared with a dramatic black Fletcher Benton ‘Folded Circles’ sculpture,” the listing says. “Majestic wings gracefully extend from each end of the Villa, akin to sculpted elements reaching skyward. These wings encase two of the four private bedrooms, offering an artistic juxtaposition of form and function.”

Built in 1988, the flat-roofed main house, or villa, contains four bedrooms and five bathrooms. The primary bedroom is shaped like an arrow. The interior starts with a dark-marble foyer and unfolds to display angular lines. There is a library/office, gym and dining and entertaining spaces.

The main living area has a view of the guest tower rising into the sky. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom tower may be the tallest structure in Napa County with 360° views of the valley, mountains and beyond from the rooftop lookout.

An elegant swimming pool spans the two “architectural marvels, serving as a tranquil oasis for repose and rejuvenation,” the listing states.

Clint and Janet Reilly told the Wall Street Journal they are selling the compound because their children are grown and are spending less time there.
