See which Greater Lansing boys and girls basketball teams are part of inaugural state rankings

Saginaw Valley signee Lydia Meredith has helped drive the Portland St. Patrick girls basketball teams as it has navigated the opening half of the season without a loss and gained an edge in the CMAC race.

And the Williamston boys basketball program has rolled to another strong start with a trio of players heading to Division I programs in Jacob Wallace, Max Burton and Mason Docks leading its balanced attack.

The success of both programs has been recognized by a statewide voting panel.

Portland St. Patrick is ranked No. 1 in Division 4 in the inaugural Associated Press girls basketball state poll of the season. Williamston is ranked No. 2 in Division 2 in the first installment of the AP boys rankings.

Portland St. Patrick is one of five girls teams featured in the top 10 on their divisions in this week's poll.

CAAC Blue leader East Lansing is ranked No. 7 in Division 1. CAAC White leader Lansing Catholic received a first-place vote is ranked third in Division 2, while reigning state champion Portland is tied for No. 10.

Defending Division 4 state champion Fowler is ranked No. 2 behind St. Patrick in Division 4.

Haslett and DeWitt (Division 1), Williamston. Ovid-Elsie and Olivet (Division 2) and Leslie and Pewamo-Westphalia (Division 3) each received votes.

Williamston, which received three first-place votes, is the only boys team from Greater Lansing ranked in the top 10 of their division.

Okemos is receiving votes in Division 1, Olivet drew votes in Division 2 and Ithaca garnered votes in Division 3. Webberville and Fowler received votes in Division 4.
