See Green Bay Preble's stadium upgrades ahead of first home football game of the season

GREEN BAY — On Friday, Preble High School's football team will play against Ashwaubenon in its first game in the newly renovated stadium.

The stadium's renovations are taking place in three phases, the first of which is slated to be fully complete by Friday's game.

Attendees can expect to see a new turf field, expanded restrooms and relocated long and triple jumps.

The project is part of the Green Bay School District's $92.6 million capital referendum that passed last fall. Once all phases are complete, the renovations are expected to cost about $7 million.

Here are three things to know about the Hornets' new digs and what's to come:

Phase 1 includes a new turf field, track and team room

Previously, Preble had a grass football field, but now it's sporting brand-new turf and goal posts along with new stadium lighting. The turf is infilled with crumb rubber for additional cushion and has electrical outlets along the sidelines.

The football team has a new gathering space at the field's southeastern end. The structure is two floors with storage on the ground level and the team room up top.

Attendees at Friday's game will also get to experience newly expanded bathrooms near the main entrance. The structure used to house the concession stand, which is moving across the stadium.

The track has been freshly paved and is waiting for its rubberized surface and track lines until after the first home game. The track replacement will allow the school to host regional championships, which it used to do in the past.

By spring, the stadium will have new bleachers, concession stand and another entrance

The next phase of the renovation includes new grandstand seating and press box. They're about two decades old now. There will be a new scoreboard, as well.

The stadium will also get a secondary entrance on the southwest side of the field that will have a plaza, concession stand, ticket box and more bathrooms.

The district purchased more land to expand the stadium

The district purchased a 9,600-square-foot parcel from Atonement Church at 2132 Deckner Ave. for the school's new long and triple jump areas.

The long and triple jumps were previously on the east side of the football field and have been moved to their own areas at the north of the stadium. The land was purchased for $14,500.
