The official trailer for Elegance Bratton’s forthcoming queer drama ‘The Inspection’ was released and it looks like a doozy.

The film, due to hit theaters on Nov. 18, stars Emmy and two-time Tony Award nominee Jeremy Pope in the autobiographical story about Ellis French, a man who joins the Marine Corps after being thrown out of his mother’s home at 16 for being gay.

At boot camp on Parris Island, S.C., his sexual orientation makes him the target of a near-lethal hazing from a tough as nails training instructor and a fellow recruits.

“My mom won’t even talk to me. Most of my friends are either dead or in jail. If I die in this uniform, I’m a hero to somebody,” Pope’s character says as tears run down this face in the gritty two-minute-plus clip.

“The Inspection,” which is described as a retelling of Bratton’s own life story, also stars Gabrielle Union, Bokeem Woodbine, Raúl Castillo, McCaul Lombardi, Aaron Dominguez and Nicholas Logan.

The 43-year-old director and screenwriter makes his narrative feature film debut after directing the documentary “Pier Kids” and the 2018 Vice docuseries “My House” about young LGBTQ+ dancers in the current underground ballroom dance scene of New York City.

The 100-minute Effie T. Brown and Chester Algernal Gordon-produced film is premiering at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 8, and it will also screen at the 60th New York Film Festival Oct. 14.
