See just how beautiful blanket of mid-October snow looks in thirsty Sierra mountains

It’s only October but skiers’ fingers are crossed.

A video shows the Sierra Nevada mountains near Lake Tahoe, California, looking very wintery on Monday morning under a blanket of new snow.

Palisades Tahoe, formerly Squaw Valley, reported 4 inches of new snow overnight at the ski resort, the first accumulation of the 2021-22 season.

Forecasts show it may be the start to an unseasonably snowy October, with more snow on the way this week and next, according to Palisades Tahoe.

The ski and snowboard season is approaching. Opening Day at Palisades Tahoe is scheduled for November 24, 2021.

Meanwhile, rain showers Sunday evening snapped a streak of nearly seven months with no measurable precipitation in downtown Sacramento. The dry spell ended at 212 days, according to the National Weather Service’s Sacramento office. Before Sunday, it had last rained a measurable amount (at least one-hundredth of an inch) on March 19.
