A trailer for Great Gerwig’s “Barbie” dropped Friday indicating the film based on America’s best known adult doll will be anything but subtle.

The 75-second preview opens with Helen Mirren narrating a clip modeled after Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey,” then explodes into a colorful montage featuring Margot Robbie as the lead character living her best life.

Starring alongside Robbie is Ryan Gosling as Barbie’s longtime partner Ken. Rounding out the comical cast are “Saturday Night Live” veterans Will Ferrell and Kate McKinnon, along with Michael Cera and America Ferrera.

The film, opening July 21, tells the story of a doll from “Barbieland” setting out for adventure because she’s seen as imperfect in her native land.

The Barbie doll by Mattel, first marketed in 1959, has been criticized for promoting unrealistic physical standards. Gerwig and her creative partner Noah Baumbach appear to work with that notion in their highly anticipated summer release.

“Our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn’t know you wanted,” Robbie told Hollywood Reporter during a 2020 discussion about “Barbie.”

Gerwig and Baumbach previously teamed-up on films including “Frances Ha,” “Mistress America” and “White Noise.” Like Barbie and Ken, they are romantically involved.
