Local course knowledge
A Tom Fazio design in 2017 regarded as tough but fair, Congaree debuted at No. 39 in Golf Digest’s America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses for 2021-22, and hosted the PGA Tour's Palmetto Championship in June 2021, when it ranked 31st on Golfweek's top 200 modern courses (built on or after 1960). Sand is in plentiful supply at the location of the former 18th century rice plantation that’s become the 2,800-acre property, including 152 acres for the par-71 course measuring 7,655 yards. Fairways run off into sand areas, with bunkering around the greens, making approach shots critical.
