ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Crews from several organizations spent Saturday practicing their skills with a house and another structure designated for fire training, according to the Spencer Fire Department.
The buildings sat on a plot of land off Long Ferry Road, near I-85 and east of Spencer. According to the Churchland Fire Department, the house was the former childhood home of their Deputy Chief, Gray Grubb.
The fire department says, “Live burns are very important as they provide the most realistic scenarios and conditions firefighters may encounter.”
The training was set to start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 27.
“This rare opportunity ensures [staff] receive the most realistic training possible,” the Spencer Fire Department said Saturday.
The Spencer Fire Department, Salisbury Fire Department, Miller’s Ferry Fire Department, Churchland Fire Department, East Spencer Fire Department, Rowan County Rescue Squad, Rowan County Emergency Services, Scotch Irish Fire Department, Ellis Fire Department and Union Fire Department all participated.
