Golf legend Gary Player, celebrity chefs and restaurateurs, and more than 120 golf and tennis enthusiasts raised money to feed about 850,000 hungry New Yorkers on Tuesday at the third annual Celebrity Chefs & Friends Golf and Tennis Tournament Benefiting City Harvest on Tuesday.

The fundraiser, which was held at Alpine Country Club in Demarest and Montammy Golf Club in Alpine, was a day-long golf and tennis tournament followed by a food-and-wine tasting reception.

Participants got the chance to play golf and tennis with chefs and food professionals, who this year included Geoffrey Zakarian, Michael Anthony, Preston Clark, Rocco DiSpirito, Jose Garces, Jamal James Kent, Alfred Portale, Marcus Samuelsson, David Shim and Cédric Vongerichten.

Other celebrities in attendance were former professional golfer, model and social media personality Paige Spiranac; former New York Yankees pitcher and World Series champion CC Sabathia; MLB Network announcer and retired major league outfielder Chris Young; co-host of Golf Channel’s Golf Today Shane Bacon; PGA Magazine Top 50 golf instructor Jonathan Yarwood; and actor Richard Kind, who stars in the new CBS police drama East New York.

The event was founded in 2019 by Herb Karlitz, an event marketer (and well-connected foodie). Dishes at the reception included truffle-topped agnolotti pasta, lobster rolls, shrimp & grits and live-fired wagyu beef.

City Harvest rescues and delivers food for New Yorkers who are struggling to put meals on their tables.
