Who to see at the Section 7 high school basketball showcase in Glendale this week

There are 229 high school basketball teams from 12 states and some big names — most notably twins Cameron and Cayden Boozer (sons of former NBA player Carlos Boozer) and Mikey Williams  — playing in this week's Section 7 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

Twelve courts are set up for 450 games that will be played on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

If last year's four-day event is any indication, expect more than 500 college coaches to attend. There were 550 coaches last year, when the NCAA-imposed moratorium for Division I schools on in-person recruiting due to COVID-19 was lifted.

This showcase is sponsored by the Arizona Interscholastic Association and run by the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association, with the National Federation of High Schools and the NCAA sanctioning the event.

Most of the teams are coming from California, 79. Arizona has the second-most schools chosen to play, 63.

This event last year was humbling to Arizona's top teams when they went up against the best teams from California, which was just coming off its CIF season with the pandemic delaying the start of high school basketball there.

Teams are placed in 16-team brackets based on competitiveness. Bracket semifinals will be Saturday night, with the finals held Sunday morning.

The event is open to the public. There are some big-name players in this tournament. So who to see, where to be, what to expect?

Matt King, president of the ABC and head of the Section 7 showcase, helped identify the best games on Friday, which is the first full slate:

Court 4

Salesian Prep (California) vs. Phoenix Brophy Prep, 1:10 p.m. Top Division I recruits: Arman Madi, Brophy, 6-7 senior forward; Tyler Harris, 6-7 senior.

Gilbert Perry vs. Corner Canyon (Utah), 2:20 p.m. Top DI recruits: Cody Williams, Perry, 6-8 senior; Brody Kozlowski, Corner Canyon, 6-7 junior. Perry 6-8 sophomore Koa Peat will not be playing because he committed to playing in the USA Basketball U17 training camp in Colorado City.

Coronado (Nevada) vs. Riordan (California), 4:40 p.m. Top DI recruits: Osiris Grady, Coronado, 6-8 senior; King-Njhsanni Wilhite, Riordon, 6-1 senior.

Bishop Gorman (Nevada) vs. Clovis North (California), 5:50 p.m. Top DI recruits: Juni Mobley, Bishop Gorman, 6-0 junior point guard; Connor Amundsen, Clovis North, 5-11 point guard

Sherman Oaks (California) Notre Dame vs. Curtis (Washington), 7 p.m. Top DI recruits: Mercy Miller (rapper Master P's son), Notre Dame, 6-4 guard, committed to Houston; Dusty Stromer, Notre Dame, 6-6 senior guard, Gonzaga commit; Caleb Foster, Curtis, 6-5 senior point guard, Duke commit; Zoom Diallo, Curtis, 6-3 junior guard.

Modesto Christian (California) vs. St. Bernard (California), 8:10 p.m. Top DI recruits: BJ Davis, Modesto, 6-1 guard; Tyler Rolison, St. Bernard, 6-0 senior guard, Pac-12 recruit; Darius Carr, St. Bernard,  6-1, senior guard.

Court 9

Eastside Catholic (Washington) vs. St. Augustine (California), 3:30 p.m. Top DI recruits: Jacob Kofie, Eastside Catholic; Jurian Dixon, St. Augustine, 6-5 senior.

Harvard Westlake (California) vs. Durango (Nevada), 4:40 p.m. Top DI recruits: Brady Dunlap, Harvard-Westlake, 6-7 senior; Taj Degourville, Durango, 6-5 junior.

Columbus (Florida) vs. West Ranch (California), 5:50 p.m. Top DI recruits: Cameron Boozer, Columbus, 6-7 sophomore, Duke offer, No. 1 player in the country in the 2025 class; Cayden Boozer, Columbus, 6-3 sophomore, Cameron's twin brother, a top 25 player in the nation in 2025 class; Jazz Gardner, West Ranch, 6-10 senior, Arizona State offer; James Evans, West Ranch, 6-5 junior;  Andrew Meadow, West Ranch, 6-7 senior.

San Ysidro (California) vs. Jesuit (California) 7 p.m. Top DI recruits: Mikey Williams, San Ysidro, 6-2 senior, ASU offer; Andrei Stojakovic, Jesuit, 6-6 senior, Stanford, UCLA, Kentucky, Kansas offers.

Heritage Christian (California) vs. Liberty (Nevada), 8:10 p.m. Top DI recruits: Roman Fisher, Heritage Christian, 6-2 sophomore; Dedan Thomas, Liberty, 5-10 junior point guard, LSU offer.
