A day after legendary musician Sting released the details of his 10-date “My Songs” world tour this fall, he gave a potential preview of the show to a small audience in the Sacramento region.

On Wednesday night, fans at at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento near Wheatland saw the 17-time Grammy Award winner perform some of his classic hits. They also saw Sting’s son Joe Sumner open for his father, and later join his dad on stage to sing backup vocals on “King of Pain” near the end of the show.

Sting’s world tour begins on Sept. 5 in Toronto featuring hits from his work as a solo artist as well from the Police. Tickets go on sale beginning Friday, April 14, at 10 a.m. local time from Sting’s website.

Sting, whose real name is Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, will perform for a second night at Hard Rock Live Sacramento on Thursday. A limited number of tickets were still available from Ticketmaster on Wednesday.

Sting performed in the Sacramento region with the Police in 2008 at Yuba County’s Toyota Amphitheatre, formally named the Sleep Train Amphitheater, just down the road from the Hard Rock casino, which opened its concert venue in 2022.

Sting started off the concert with the Police classic “Message in a Bottle.” He played 21 songs, ending the night with “Roxanne” and “Fragile” as encores.
