What to do and see on the third day of the Iowa State Fair 2022
The 2022 Iowa State Fair runs 11 days, from Thursday, Aug. 11 through Sunday, Aug. 21. Des Moines Register newsroom staffers put together this daily guide to help you enjoy your time at the 2022 Iowa State Fair.

Meet the new Iowa State Fair Queen
About 100 competitors from every county across the state will take the Anne and Bill Riley Stage at 7 p.m. with hopes of being named the 58th State Fair Queen. McKenna Henrich of Plymouth County is the reigning queen.

Try a favorite dish from the Iowa State Fair
What better to eat on a 98-degree day at the fair than ice cream? A Bauder's Peppermint Bar — peppermint ice cream sandwiched between crushed Oreos, with fudge sauce — is about as good as it gets. Find Bauder's on the southwest side of the Agriculture Building.
Who's performing on Day 3 of the State Fair?
See a free show: Check out the work of chainsaw artists Gary Keenan and TJ Jenkins, who will hold carving demonstrations at 10 a.m., noon, 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. in the Country School area.
Who's on the Grandstand?: Nelly with special guest Ginuwine, 8 p.m.

11:15 a.m.: Republican Brenna Bird, candidate for Iowa attorney general
Noon: Republican Zach Nunn, candidate for Iowa's 3rd Congressional District
2:15 p.m.: Libertarian Rick Stewart, candidate for Iowa governor
3 p.m.: Bryan Jack Holder, Liberty Caucus candidate for Iowa's 4th Congressional District
3:45 p.m.: Democrat Deidre DeJear, candidate for Iowa governor
4:30 p.m.: Democrat Joel Miller, candidate for Iowa secretary of state
What should I know if I go?
Regular gate admission: $14 for ages 12 and up, $8 for ages 6-11, free for children 5 and under.
Hours: Fairgrounds, 8 a.m. to midnight. Buildings, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thrill Ville and Thrill Zone, 10 a.m. to midnight. Thrill Town, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Weather forecast: Mostly sunny with a high near 98 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
