"When They See Us" Star Jharrel Jerome Prepared for Emmys 2019 With a Little Dance

Jharrel Jerome knows how to properly pre-game for what’s sure to be a long and celebratory night ahead of him — and he’s not afraid to show his fans how.

The Dominican-American actor is nominated for his first Emmy Award tonight for his role as Korey Wise from When They See Us — the Ava Duvernay directed Netflix mini-series depicting 1989 story of the New York’s “Central Park Five” and the bleak, longtime corruption of America’s modern criminal justice system.

Hours before he hit the purple carpet, however, Jharrel gave his fans some insight into his pre-party prepping — clad in a fuzzy hotel bathrobe and showing off his best moves dancing along to A Tribe Called Quest’s “Scenario.”

The song’s classic lyrics by ATCQ’s Phife Dawg, “But here's the real scoop / I'm all that and then some / Short, dark, and handsome,” narrated Jharrel’s impromptu dance break, may or may not have echoed his personal sentiments as he got glammed up for the evening. Where he would go on to wear a sleek black suit with a white button-up.

Jharrel is just one of four Latinx nominees for this year’s Emmy Awards. He’s been open in the past about how important and influential his role and the series as a whole is. “Being from the Bronx — being from right around the way — and being Dominican, a person of color, it was just so important to me [to be in this project] from the moment I saw it,” Jharrel previously told Variety.
