The Lansing Catholic football team has been in the field for the Michigan High School  Athletic Association state playoffs every year since 2009.

That streak could be in jeopardy this fall.

With the football regular season down to its final three weeks, Lansing Catholic is still in position to make the playoffs but has work to do.

Lansing Catholic and Laingsburg are in the mix for the final few spots in the Division 6 field. Lansing Catholic is tied for 32nd in playoff points in the division, while Laingsburg is a spot back at 34 and Stockbridge is 35th. The top 32 teams in playoff points in each 11-player division make the playoffs and the top 16 in 8-player divisions qualify.

The battle between Lansing Catholic (2-4), Laingsburg (4-2) and Stockbridge (3-3) for a postseason spot highlights the playoff picture in Greater Lansing entering Week 7. Lansing Catholic travels to face rival Portland this week, while Laingsburg heads to face CMAC leader Fowler and Stockbridge faces Perry.

A total of 22 area teams are in position to make the playoffs. Among those currently in the mix is Perry, which got to 3-3 on Rease Teel's game-winning field goal as time expired in a victory over Leslie on Friday. Outside of the COVID-19-impacted 2020 season when everyone made the postseason, Perry has never been part of the playoff field. Perry is among the final teams in in Division 7.

Here's a look at how things stand in the area through six weeks.
