See where South Shore high school boys and girls basketball teams landed in MIAA tourney

The MIAA announced the high school basketball and hockey tournament pairings on Saturday.
The South Shore will be represent by 28 boys basketball teams and 26 girls basketball teams.
More:See where South Shore high school boys and girls hockey teams landed in MIAA state tourney
On the boys' side, Archbishop Williams (Div. 3) is the lone No. 1 seed. Cardinal Spellman checks in at No. 4 in Div. 3, followed by Hanover (No. 9) and Norwell (No. 10). Defending state champ Randolph is seeded No. 7 in Div. 4, North Quincy is No. 11 in Div. 2, and defending state champ BC High is No. 13 in Div. 1. Our highest-seeded Div. 5 team is Holbrook at No. 14.
More:These South Shore high school boys basketball teams could be sleepers in the MIAA tourney
On the girls' side, Norwell is the highest-seeded local, sitting at No. 2 in Div. 3. That's a crowded bracket for South Shore teams with Rockland (a state finalist a year ago) at No. 4 and Fontbonne Academy at No. 10, among others. Cohasset is a No. 5 seed in Div. 4, Bridgewater-Raynham checks in at No. 7 in Div. 1, and Whitman-Hanson (Div. 2) and Carver (Div. 5) are both No. 14 seeds. Oliver Ames, the defending Div. 2 state champ, is seeded No. 18.

Favorite, contender or underdog?
No. 13 BC High - Contender: The defending state champs struggled to a 1-6 start, but they recovered nicely and were competitive in recent losses to No. 1 CM (71-62) and No. 2 Lawrence (76-67).
No. 14 Brockton - Contender: The Boxers enter the tournament on a 10-3 hot streak, and Cameron Monteiro and 6-foot-8 freshman Chidi Nwosu form a potent 1-2 punch.
No. 30 Weymouth - Underdog: The Wildcats have enjoyed a breakthrough season, punching their playoff ticket for the first time since 2014. Junior forward Edric Louissaint is a difference-maker.
No. 34 Hingham - Underdog: The Harbormen had a strong finishing kick, going 7-3 down the stretch and beating Westford Academy in the regular-season finale to qualify.
No. 40 Marshfield - Underdog: Shout-out to coach Bob Fisher, who recently earned his 200th win with the Rams. Marshfield is 15-for-15 in qualifying for the tournament on his watch.

No. 27 Plymouth South vs. No. 38 Revere (preliminary round)
No. 36 Duxbury at No. 29 Westwood (preliminary round)
Favorite, contender or underdog?
No. 11 North Quincy - Contender: The Raiders have thrived this winter with senior guard Zach Taylor blossoming into a star. NQ was the top team in the Patriot League, which should prepare it well for the postseason.
No. 14 Canton - Contender: Don't let the .500 record fool you; the Bulldogs play in the always tough Hockomock League, and their opponent rating is one of the best of any team in this division.
No. 16 Scituate - Contender: With Michael Porter, Jimmy Tolton and Kyle Mullen, the Sailors could go on a run, although red-hot Middleboro looms in the first round.
No. 17 Middleboro - Contender: The Sachems started 0-3 and finished by winning of their last 19. Jacob Briggs and Matt Youngquist could make life difficult for opponents.
No. 22 Whitman-Hanson - Underdog: The Panthers lost by 8 against North Quincy during the regular season.
No. 23 Pembroke - Underdog: Even if the Titans pull off the upset vs. Marblehead (see prediction above), No. 7 Pope Francis and No. 2 Mansfield loom in their quadrant of the bracket.
No. 27 Plymouth South - Underdog: The Panthers dropped six of eight down the stretch, although five of their losses overall have come by 2 points or less.
No. 36 Duxbury - Underdog: The Dragons own recent wins over Pembroke, Div. 1 Hingham and Div. 1 Whitman-Hanson, so they won't be intimidated by playoff competition.

No. 35 East Bridgewater at No. 30 Groton-Dunstable (preliminary round)
Favorite, contender or underdog?
No. 1 Archbishop Williams - Favorite: The Bishops took their first loss in the regular season-finale against Mansfield (No. 2 in Div. 2). Archbishop Williams has been the best team in Div. 3 all year; look for them to prove that in the next few weeks.
No. 4 Cardinal Spellman - Contender: The Cardinals lost two lopsided games against Archbishop Williams and beat pretty much everybody else, including No. 2 St. Mary's. Spellman might belong in the favorite category, but Archies has been steps ahead of everybody else in Div. 3.
No. 9 Hanover - Contender: The Patriot League had a down year, but still the Hawks found a ton of success in a schedule filled with Div. 1 and 2 playoff teams. The Hawks have a chance at a rematch vs. Oakmont, which ended their season last year, later in the tournament.
No. 10 Norwell - Contender: The South Shore League (Norwell shared the Sullivan title with Randolph) was very competitive this winter. The Clippers did not get an easy draw in the tournament.
No. 24 Abington - Underdog: The Green Wave do boast a difference-maker in junior forward Connor Pease, who could be a tough matchup for anyone.
No. 33 Rockland - Underdog: The Bulldogs are better than your typical No. 33 seed, but a trip to No. 32 Watertown is a tough draw. Top-seeded Archies is waiting in the Round of 32.
No. 35 East Bridgewater - Underdog: For the second consecutive year, the Vikings won a thriller in the last game of the season to get into the tournament. EB will look to carry that momentum into the tournament.

No. 30 Cohasset vs. No. 35 Maimonides (preliminary round)
No. 31 Blue Hills vs. No. 34 Blackstone Valley (preliminary round)
Favorite, contender or underdog?
No. 7 Randolph - Contender: The Blue Devils won it all last season, and although the roster has overhauled, Isaiah Michel and company should make another deep playoff run.
No. 10 West Bridgewater - Contender: The Wildcats could match up against Randolph in the Round of 16.
No. 17 Carver - Underdog: If they win their first-round matchup, the Crusaders likely would draw No. 1 Wareham next.
No. 30 Cohasset - Underdog: The Skippers have a tough road with No. 3 Springfield International looming in the Round of 32.
No. 31 Blue Hills - Underdog: If the Warriors get past Blackstone Valley in the prelims, they draw No. 2 Burke in the Round of 32.

Favorite, contender or underdog?
No. 14 Holbrook - Underdog: Taconic should be a heavy favorite; other than that Div. 5 is wide open. No reason the Bulldogs can't make at least some noise.
No. 19 Calvary Chapel - Underdog: With career 1,000-point scorer Luke Chapman on board, the Rockland program could surprise, though.
No. 28 Hull - Underdog: The Pirates are battle-tested from playing in the South Shore League, but No. 5 Maynard looms in the Round of 32.

Favorite, contender or underdog?
No. 7 Bridgewater-Raynham - Contender: The Trojans are red hot heading into the tournament. Natalia Hall-Rosa is one of the best players in the bracket.
No. 25 Weymouth - Underdog: The Wildcats are making their first trip to the tournament in a long time.
No. 27 Quincy - Underdog: Despite a 16-4 record, the Presidents are ranked pretty low. No. 6 Framingham is waiting in the Round of 32.
No. 31 Marshfield - Underdog: The Rams have won eight in a row heading into the tournament. They'll see a familiar foe in Plymouth North in the preliminary round, but No. 2 Bishop Feehan is a heavy hitter awaiting the winner.
No. 34 Plymouth North - Underdog: The Blue Eagles are 1-1 against the Rams this season. The third meeting is the most important.
No. 37 Brockton - Underdog: First-year coach Barbara Enos has done a phenomenal job turning this program around. A preliminary-round matchup against New Bedford should be a good one.

No. 34 Pembroke at No. 31 Bedford (preliminary round)
No. 18 Oliver Ames at No. 15 Billerica
Favorite, contender or underdog?
No. 14 Whitman-Hanson - Contender: The Panthers are led by their lone senior in Caitlin Leahy. The rest of W-H is very young, but still the team has had a superb season in what many thought would be a rebuilding year.
No. 18 Oliver Ames - Contender: The defending state champs are peaking at the perfect time. After some early-season struggles, the Tigers returned to form. A potential Round of 16 game against No. 2 Medfield could be one of the better games of the tournament.
No. 21 Hanover - Underdog: If the Hawks win their preliminary-round game, undefeated No. 12 South High is waiting.
No. 27 Notre Dame Academy - Underdog: I like the Cougars' chances to pull off an upset in the tournament, but No. 38 Marlboro is up first.
No. 34 Pembroke - Underdog: The Titans are making their return to the tournament. They've been one of the winter's most improved teams.
No. 36 Middleboro - Underdog: The Sachems won their final game of the regular season to get into the tournament. Just making the field is a nice accomplishment for a really young team. Keep an eye on this group in years to come.

No. 23 Greater Lowell Tech at No. 10 Fontbonne
No. 34 AMSA/No. 31 Diman winner at No. 2 Norwell
Favorite, contender or underdog?
No. 2 Norwell - Favorite: The Clippers have been knocking on the door of a deep tournament run for years; I think this could be the year they reach the Final Four. Norwell ended up on the opposite side of the bracket to St. Mary's.
No. 4 Rockland - Contender: If the Bulldogs are to go on another deep run, there will be a lot of familiar faces on the way. A semifinal against St. Mary's is a ways away, but I know the Bulldogs would love a chance at redemption after last year's state final loss.
No. 10 Fontbonne - Contender: The Ducks are an under-the-radar team to keep an eye on. They'll be one of the toughest outs in this tournament.
No. 11 Archbishop Williams - Contender: The Bishops have cooled down after a strong start to the season. The Catholic Central League is filled with state-title contenders, so this team is used to playing against the best teams in the state.
No. 17 East Bridgewater - Underdogs: The injury bug has hit the Vikings hard this season and No. 16 Sandwich is red-hot heading into the tournament.
No. 21 Abington - Underdog: The Green Wave would love to pull of an upset at No. 12 Tantasqua. Ella Williamson can shoot Abington into any game.
No. 37 Southeastern - Underdog: It'll be a tough road in the tournament for the No. 37 Hawks. No. 5 Dover-Sherborn awaits the winner of Southeastern and Lynnfield's preliminary-round game.

No. 37 Fellowship Christian Academy/No. 28 Monument Mountain winner at No. 5 Cohasset

Favorite, contender or underdog?
No. 5 Cohasset - Favorite: The Skippers stunned No. 1 Cathedral last season. Cohasset would love another shot at that again this year, but it would require a run to the state semifinals. Sarah Chenette is one of the best players in this bracket.
No. 20 Blue Hills - Underdog: An 18-2 record doesn't get what it used to. Despite having the most wins (tied with No. 14 Easthampton), the Warriors will be on the road for a tough game at No. 13 Manchester Essex.
No. 24 West Bridgewater - Underdog: The Wildcats were once 0-7, but WB ended the season on a 10-3 run to get into the tournament. They'll be a tough out.

No. 14 Carver - Contender: The Crusders (9-13) went below .500 against the tough competition of the South Shore League. That tough schedule has Carver prepared for the tournament.
No. 20 Hull - Underdog: Like Carver, the Pirates battled in a loaded South Shore League all year. Even at 6-12, Hull will be a tough out in the tournament.
No. 22 South Shore Tech - Underdog: The Vikings have had a ton of success this winter, and they'll be matched up with another 16-4 team in the Round of 32.
No. 37 Avon - Underdog: The Panthers are making their first tournament trip since 2010.
