See where tornadoes may have struck in Ohio on Wednesday

At least one tornado touched down in Clark County east of Dayton as storms moved across parts of Ohio early Wednesday, according to the Clark County Emergency Management Agency and National Weather Service in Wilmington.

A radar-indicated tornado struck down in Clark County from Springfield through the county line, the EMA said in a news release.

Another was possibly reported nearby a few minutes later southeast of Springfield, moving toward South Vienna.

A tornado may also have struck in Madison County near Columbus.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington says it hasn't confirmed whether a tornado touched down because crews will need to survey the damage in person. Meteorologists will conduct those surveys Wednesday and focus on the Interstate 70 corridor between the Dayton metro area and the Columbus metro area where the damage appears to be concentrated.

The Clark County tornado was reported as having happened just before 5 a.m. southeast of Springfield. Heavy debris was reported on Mitchell Road.

Torrential rain, high winds and two-inch-sized hail also blew through.

The agency said in its news release it received reports of multiple structures collapsed and is working with local fire departments to assess the damage.

That includes a large tree that fell on a Huber Heights house about 4:30 a.m. and another that fell on a nearby car.

Another tree is down near Interstate 70 west of South Vienna.

“The EMA asks residents to stay away from the area of Mitchell Road, Crabill Road and Ridge Road in Springfield Twp. The EMA also asks all residents to be aware of their surroundings and stay away from downed power lines,” the release states.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office also is warning residents to stay away from the area of Ohio 41 due to debris and possible downed power lines.

Residents headed to the South Charleston area also are being advised to find alternate routes.

“Damage has been reported from Crabill and Mitchell Roads in Springfield Twp. through the corner of Wilson Road and U.S. 40. We ask residents to stay away from those areas, as well as Newlove Road in Harmony Twp,” the release states.
