See where Volusia, Flagler fall in Florida's Department of Education school district grades

The Florida Department of Education released its statewide district and school grades for the 2022-2023 school year on Monday.

Volusia County Schools and Flagler County Schools both received a B grade. The assessments were calculated using performance standards in mathematics and English language arts and FAST assessments.

FAST stands for Florida's Assessment of Student Thinking which measures progress throughout the school year and aims to improve student performance.

"These school grades serve as a baseline for districts and provide a starting point for future achievement," said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. in a press release. "I look forward to seeing schools rise to the occasion as they continue to provide Florida students a first-rate education."

The Board said there will be no negative consequences for schools or districts based on their 2022-23 baseline grades.

Volusia County Schools

Volusia County Schools got a B rating, the same grade it has received since 2014 when the district got a C. The school district did not receive a rating in 2020-2021. For 2022-2023, the district had 19 schools scoring an A, 21 a B, and 30 a C.

Volusia County Schools was "thrilled to announce" that no schools received a grade of D or F," according to a press release.

Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin said “We are thrilled to see increases in so many areas, including all graded schools achieving an A, B or C. We look forward to continued achievement as we keep moving forward together."
