See Yonkers 'topping off' ceremony for new Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School

Dedicated to the first Latina to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School in Yonkers will serve 675 students from pre-K to eighth grade and the local community.

The Justice School is the first of three new schools to be constructed by the City of Yonkers in its efforts to rebuild the aging infrastructure of the Yonkers Public Schools. Construction is expected to be completed for the 2024-25 school year. The Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School is the first Yonkers Public School to be built in 20 years.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, the Yonkers Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin M. Quezada along with local and state officials participated in a "topping off ceremony" for the Yonkers Public School District’s new Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School, in which the final structural beam was raised on the school.
