Earlier this week, Netflix acquired the worldwide streaming rights to Seinfeld in a multi-year agreement valued at $500 million dollars. For those fans not yet read to cut the cord, however, episodes of Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David’s classic comedy sitcom will still be shown in syndication on cable television — albeit at a new home.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Sony TV has followed up its Netflix deal by coming to terms with Viacom for the cable rights to Seinfeld. Beginning in October 2021, episodes will be shown exclusively on Viacom owned channels, including Comedy Central, Paramount Network, and TV Land. Episodes will also be offered on-demand via Viacom authenticated websites, apps, and other platforms.
The deal means Seinfeld will no longer be syndicated on WarnerMedia-owned channels like TNT and TBS, where episodes have aired for over 20 years.
In addition to Seinfeld, Comedy Central recently expanded its syndicated portfolio by acquiring the rights to King of the Hill and Parks & Recreation.
