Selena Gomez Brings Back 2000s Fashion With This Long Denim Skirt

2000s fashion has been creeping its way back into our closets—and, according to Selena Gomez’s latest mirror selfie—the trend doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. The Only Murders in the Building star is arguably one of the most famous people in the world right now with her fashion sense to match, so it only makes sense that we did a deep dive into her latest OOTD that she featured on her Instagram story. And get this: Gomez’s long denim skirt (that we all had in our dressers at one point or another) isn’t as expensive as you’d think.

The actress paired the denim with a plunging tropical corset top (from Miaou that runs for $245), classic hoop earrings, pointed white heels, and a sparkly red and yellow bag. Despite the outfit not being totally matchy-matchy per se, the pop of color from the bag seemingly works with the various blues and purples showcased in her fitted top.

The Rare Beauty founder opted for a matte lip combined with neutral face makeup (which one can only assume is courtesy of her own makeup products). Gomez then completed the look with a slicked-back ponytail tied with a black ribbon. As we patiently await the black hair ribbon to make its way onto our Instagram feeds, our credit cards are ready to be used on that denim maxi skirt from Zara. Unfortunately, the exact wash Gomez posted about is sold out, but you can grab the darker wash, which totally has the same stylish effect.

Although Gomez’s corset top is very much out of many people’s (including ours) price range, Zara’s TRF Long Denim Skirt in the color “blue” is only $49.90. The piece carries five pockets and an unhemmed front slit. The front button displays an asymmetrical cut—which is also very in style at the moment with any type of jean. In our experience, it’s pretty rare (no pun intended) for staple Zara items to go on sale unless you get lucky in one of the storefront’s clearance.

Having said that, the denim skirt is totally worth the splurge in our eyes. It’s versatile for the spring, summer, or fall months and would pair nicely with virtually any shirt you have hanging around your closet. If you have your heart set on a light wash option, we also found a dupe on Amazon that’s only $39.99. As long as the skirts-over-jeans trend never sees the light of day again, we are definitely here for Gomez’s 2000s comeback.
