Selena Gomez Praised Demi Lovato’s Moving Grammys 2020 Performance

"Thank you for your courage and bravery."

Demi Lovato made a beautiful and much-anticipated return to music on Sunday, debuting a new song at the Grammys, and earning a standing ovation. The reveal of her single, "Anyone," written four days before she reportedly overdosed, also earned a seal of approval from longtime supporter Selena Gomez, who shared a message of love on Instagram.

Although the Demi and Selena don't appear to be as close as they were in their Disney Channel days, the two stars have remained supportive of each other over the years. On Sunday, Selena shared a picture of her television set, which was tuned to Demi performing at the Grammys, Elle reported. "I wish there were words to describe how beautiful, inspirational, and DESERVED this moment was," Selena captioned the picture. "Demi I'm so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery."

The former Wizards of Waverly Place star shared another message of support after Demi's reported overdose. Selena told Elle that she had reached out, noting that the two were childhood best friends. “All I’m saying is, I reached out personally," she said. "I didn’t do a public thing. I didn’t want to. I…I love her. I’ve known her since I was seven. So…it’s…that’s what I’ll say."

Demi hasn't yet responded to Selena's Instagram post, but it's likely that she was wading through a lot of supportive comments. After her time on the Grammys stage, she filled her Instagram Story with fan reactions to the song, and posted a thank you to her timeline. "What an unbelievable night," she wrote. "My first time back on stage in almost 2 years. So emotional for me. Thank you all for the love, support and for sharing this moment with me. I love you all."
