Selena Gomez on “Rare” and Friendship With Jennifer Aniston

Selena Gomez continues to find the strength in being vulnerable.

The singer-songwriter sat down with Jennifer Aniston on the Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this week to discuss her new album, Rare, as well as her status as a major Friends fan. The actor brought up Selena’s hit song, “Lose You to Love Me,” noting that the track was “very revealing” — after all, many fans think it was written about none other than Justin Bieber.

“It is nerve-racking when you’re putting your heart out there,” Jennifer said while discussing Selena’s song. “And yet, it always seems to pay off because that’s what people really respond to: your authenticity, your beauty, and your honesty.” (Selenators would definitely agree.)

In response, Selena stated that was “the whole point” of the song. “When I was younger, I felt like it was weakness to be vulnerable and to share my heart with people,” the “Look at Her Now” singer added. “I realized that everybody else seemed to be narrating my life for me, so why don’t I put something out that is my side of the story? It’s not hateful or anything. It’s simply a beautiful moment to let go of. And I was really, really proud of it.”

Of course, neither Sel nor Jennifer mentioned the Biebs by name, so it’s hard to know if they were referring to Selena's former relationship with the singer. The two celebs also discussed their friendship, which apparently began in a bathroom (which, let’s be real, a lot of friendships do).

“I think we were at Vanity Fair event, and I was there with my mom, and I walked into the bathroom and I saw you, and you were just like so nice,” Selena recalled, noting that “nobody knew who I was” back then. “You just walked out of the bathroom and you were going back, and my heart like, stopped. And I freaked out; I ran to my mom and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I just saw Jennifer Aniston.’”

What started as a starstruck run-in soon blossomed into some serious sisterly bonding; according to Jennifer, the two celebs have hung out plenty of times since then. “We’ve known each other for years,” the Friends star said. “You’ve been to my house. We’ve had pizza. Girl after my own heart, do we love a pizza or what? We love a pizza.” OK, we love a pizza too — so can we score an invite next time? Let us know!
