The El Paso Museum of Art opened a new exhibit this week to commemorate Tejano music legend Selena Quintanilla-Pérez.
Inspired by the exhibit at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas, the new El Paso exhibit pays homage to the enduring legacy of Selena, the revered Queen of Tejano Music.

"Siempre Selena" exhibit at El Paso Art Museum
The "Siempre Selena" exhibit celebrates Selena's career through monumental photography by John Dyer, Selena-inspired costumes, and memorabilia contributed by the El Paso community.
Edward Hayes, the director of the El Paso Museum of Art, said the exhibit can be a teachable moment for younger generations.
“We have up to 50 artifacts, we have these amazing costumes,” he said in an interview with KFOX14. “The exhibition is to celebrate Selena through these artifacts.”
The exhibition opened on Feb. 15 and runs through February 2025.
Who is Selena Quintanilla?
Selena was an American singer from Lake Jackson, Texas. A Grammy Award-winning artist, her musical and fashion contributions made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers.
On March 31, 1995, the singer was murdered by Yolanda Saldívar, Selena’s former employee. Saldívar is currently serving life in prison for the murder of the Tejano star. She is eligible for parole in March 2025.
Oxygen True Crime premieres 'Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them'
Oxygen True Crime premiered a two-part limited documentary series, "Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them," on Feb. 17.
The new docuseries includes interviews with Saldívar from prison, details of her working relationship and friendship with Selena and interviews with Saldívar's family.
Episodes are currently available to stream on Peacock.
