Self-storage facility proposed for South Jersey diner site

BURLINGTON TWP. – South Jersey could be losing another long-time diner site here.

A developer wants to replace the former Teddy’s Diner with a self-storage facility on Route 130 at the Beverly Road jughandle, according to an application before the township’s zoning board.

The proposal calls for a three-story building of about 91,000 square feet. It would need a use variance and other approvals from Burlington Township’s zoning board.

The developer, Burlington Route 130 Partners LLC of Lakewood, could not be reached for comment.

Route 130 site devours diners

Teddy’s Diner opened in 2020, but did not survive the pandemic. Other diners previously operated at the site as the Dolphin and the Continental.

Four other diner locations in South Jersey have been targeted recently for new uses.

Planning boards have approved separate proposals to operate cannabis dispensaries at the former Sage Diner on Route 73 in Mount Laurel and the vacant Marlton Diner on Route 70 in Evesham.

The Cherry Hill Diner is awaiting demolition to make way for a car wash at Route 38 and Cooper Landing Road.

And Pennsauken’s zoning board this month is to consider a developer’s plan to demolish the former Penn Queen Diner.

That proposal calls for a Taco Bell, a coffee shop and a store at the Route 130 site.
