PORTLAND, Ore. (PORTLAND TRIBUNE) — The Portland Music Mural will celebrate its six-month anniversary with a selfie contest on Instagram. The contest will be open from through March and the top three finishers will receive prizes from local businesses.

The 50-by-21-foot mural at 1130 S.W. Morrison features 25 musicians and groups who helped shape the local music scene. It was officially dedicated on Sept. 1, 2023, with a large gathering and group sing-along of “Louie Louie,” the iconic party song popularized 60 years by the Portland band The Kingsmen, who are featured on the mural.

Other musicians and bands on the mural include The Dandy Warhols, Esperanza Spalding, Lifesavas, Mel Brown, Obo Addy, Sleeter-Kinney, and many others. The complete list and their likenesses can be found at MusicMuralProject.com.

The mural was produced by Jason Savage Images and painted by the Pander Brothers, with the assistance of Keri Hughes. It is intended to celebrate the Portland music scene and help revitalize downtown. Many people took selfies in front of the mural while it was being painted and during the dedication ceremony. Its progress was documented by several stories in the Portland Tribune.
